What are the implications of leaving a job at the end of a temp contract?

  • and they wouldn't write to the job as you would be working for an agency
  • Please dont tell me what I feel. I am not going to just quit a job, Im not an idiot!! If I have to stick it out, I will. Ive been through worse in my life.

OK I won't say you "absolutely hate it there" and I won't say that your "mental state/health has not been good" to the extent that you "personally feel" you "have to put that above anything else".

What I do know is that if I absolutely hated working somewhere and thought my mental state/health had deteriorated since working in that place and that my mental health was more important than anything else, I wouldn't stay any longer than my notice period.

Are you employed via an agency or on a temporary contract with the employing organisation?

You have asked this question a few times in a number of different ways including saying you're relocating.

If you really hate it there just leave and let someone else have the job.

Excuse me, that was another temp job I had over a year ago!!! And yes I did re-locate if you must know. How rude!! How do you even remember that???

They were at the beginning of the year, one was in February where the company was closing in March so I'm guessing this is a different job.

Im currently on a contract in an office which is due to end in a few months time. To put it bluntly, I absolutely hate it there, I want to leave as soon as possible, and I have no interest in a permanent position. Unfortunately, my boss has implied that she would like me to stay on permanantly "if I would like to".
What do you hate about it? Your boss is obviously pleased with your work as she wants you to stay, so maybe if there is something you are unhappy about she might be willing to change it?

Can you have an honest chat with your boss, say it's not for you long term and can they bring the contract to an end early? That way you can negotiate a leave date that suits you both (long enough for them to get someone else in and trained, I'd imagine) and you can safely say to the JC that your contract ended and that's why you left. So technically your employer would be giving you notice rather than the other way round. I work in HR and we don't usually get contacted by the job centre when someone finishes a fixed term contract (although I'm not saying it can't happen). We tend to get contacted when someone leaves due to dismissal for misconduct, or redundancy ie when they leave a perm job (or a perm job leaves them I suppose!) I don't know what JC policy is, but I can't remember ever being contacted to verify the reason for a temp leaving when the fixed term contract ended. Most employers are fairly reasonable if you try and work with them, and will not want to keep someone on who's heart's not in it if they can get someone else who is a better long term prospect. Obviously you need to be careful why you say you don't want to stay perm, make it about you rather than them, eg because it does not fit in with your career goals or something.
