Afternoon all, I am new here but been lurking for a while. Today I have decied we are going to get our weekly food budget down and decided to visit the local Lidl to see what they had, I managed to get most of the weekly shop for £17.06 instead of the usual £60, had to go to farmfoods for a few extras which cam to £7.00, I am amazed at how much cheaper things can be if you get of your bum and have a look around. :T :T
How a good weekend.

I am going to work. That will be 50 hours overtime this month. Also take my own food and coffee, but as we are so short staffed it doesnt look as though I will get time to have it. Also saves on fags as I wont be able to smoke for 6 hours.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

It's my birthday, so I haven't really been in my usual MSE mode.
Bought a Daily telegraph (4 euros  here in Spain) as a treat. But being Saturday it has about twenty parts to it and will last all week!
Told my husband that if he cooked me mince and mash for my tea (my favourite, how sad am i?) , I wouldn't expect him to take me to the local restaurant (so that's a BIT MSE as we have all the ingredients).
Sitting in our little study reading and forum-ing so that we don't have to heat the entire house (It's freezing cold here). It's three storey, has no central heating and is built to be cool  Also although it is cold it is sunny and our study has patio doors that open onto the roof terrace : only being a small room it has got really warmed up just with the sun shining through the glass, I've only just put the electric fire on. (1530 here).
Have I done anything else MSE? Don't think so.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Happy Birthday!!!!!
I feel very virtuous today :A so far I've:
- Sweet talked bank into halving my overdraft interest rate :money:
- Dried clothes on airer instead of drier (actually that's becoming a habit now)
- bought a reduced takeaway in asda for less than £2 instead of sending for one tonight
- sent a quilt I got off freecycle with my friend to her work to sneak it in the industrial sized washng machine instead of taking it to the cleaners
- posted ebay and amazon items (and had over estimated postage (unintentionally) so got a couple of extra £££s
- sorted out a load of paperwork and found an account with £10.07 in it, so called and asked them to forward the chequ eand close the account
- phoned and cancelled a couple of old credit card accounts (after reading in The Money Diet that this may affect my credit rating still having them open) and used saynoto0870.com to get freephone numbers to call them! :T
I'm sure there's more but I'll edit later if I remember

Thanks for the birthday wishes!
I have just discovered 'say no to 0870' and it's really useful to me here in Spain if I have to ring any of the utilities about my house in the UK or the bank, or similar (even 0800 numbers are charged as mobiles here). I have a package where I pay 11 euros a month for more-or-less unlimited international calls, so as long as they are a geographical number, they can go in with that quota.
Last month, my 0870 and similar numbers came to 8 euros  , so this site will be a big saving.
Thanks again MSEs:beer:(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Had a girls day out shopping with my friend in town. Had lunch out and friend paid in return for a favour I did her recently.:D
Picked up a few bargains whilst out and didn't pay full price for anything I bought all day. Came home well under budget, and picked up 3 £2 coins in my change too:j
Checked online bank accounts.
Making tea from storecupboard.
