    Hello Dot, well done on posting the SOA. If you can really free up that £250 per month, that debt'll be gone in no time at all

    Hey Dot

    Congrats on posting. Did you want thoughts/comments, or are you happy where you're at with it?

  • Thoughts and comments always recieved well Nora!

    Let now commit to my monthly - general spending intentions.

    The main thing is how to manage the food budget and still have some sort of quality of life, and keep to my values.

    So I had been, until I went back to uni in October, shopping very cheaply, going to the market and really looking for the best deals. I was really pleased with it in the main, but the fruit and veg from the market were not always good quality and sometimes ended up in the bin. Plus i have some quite strongly held values about sustainable farming and air miles. So whilst I was doing this, and it was working fairly well there was certainly some elements I was finding less than satisfactory. Plus it was like a days work, of utter slog, following a long working week. So I have been thinking about this quite a lot.

    I started getting a veg box delivered some time in October, and I really like the ethos of the company, have been playing around with the boxes for a while and now think I have settled on a good selection for me and DD. You guys are going to think it is extravagant I reckon! But I get dead miserable if I don't have good food to eat, and cook, it is thearaputic for me and takes the edge off the fact i hate doing my uni work (this is my 8th year - and it wasn't entered into with a great deal of choice), and the fact I don't have much money to go out.

    So the plan is a monthly delivery from Waitrose (yes, I know its expensive, but they deliver free and ethically much sounder than the others, plus substiute goods are much better), basics and heavy/bulky stuff, and fortnightly delivery from Riverford - am going to try out the meat box soon. So riverford will be 'seasons' veg, salad, and fruit boxes, and then in February, a small meat box. This will mean I will only need to pop to the shops for milk, yoghurt, lemons and potatoes (I am very fussy about potatoes). Much less arduous and much more time for study/having a nice time.

    So the budget is £350 a month for all....and I want some surplus for a couple of nights out, here goes.

    1. waitrose maximum of £100
    2. Riverford veg and meat £80.70 x 2
    Total = £261.40

    Leaves £88.60

    I have put a limit on myself for night out to be £25, helped along by my hipflask! So if I go out twice I have £38.60 for bits I need to pick up and maybe a bit towards the CC/Golightly glamour fund.

    Now to test out if it works! I had the veg boxes delivered on Thursday, and I have to say the salad we had with tuna fishcakes last night was lush.
