    Debt-free and Proud!
Hi James. There's no shame claiming benefits you're entitled to. When my dad was made redundant he didn't want to sign on but did because "he'd contributed enough to the system in his working life, it was time to recoup some" The system is there to help you.

Also keep job hunting, however depressing it may seem at times. Something will come along eventually. Try signing up to agencies, get your CV out there as much as you can. My friend's hubby put his on every Jobsite he could find online too.

    Oh, and good luck! xxx

My problem was, I spend spend spend and did not save! Cleared a lot of debit but really need new job......and advise on what to do with the bank?

You can look for 0% transfer cards for short term help.
Also, guess you'll have checked for insurance policies associated with your cards? One of mine will pay out for "Involuntary Unemployment".

Job-wise, not sure if you've already tried, but it's worth getting back in touch with any of your previous companies (if you've worked at more than one place).

if you contact cccs they will give you a refereance client number and send you out the template letters.. you need to send them our recorded delivery-this will stop them hassaling you..they will write back to confirm and you then have it all in writing. Send the token payment then by standing order each month, then when you get a job and things are on the up, contact cccs again and they will then help you sort paying them off.. or you can do this and just pay them off (save it in whole and then pay).. hope that helps

  • James, you sound like you have a lot of drive. Have you considered starting your own business? If you could work on that from home, that will will be better for your family life as well.

    James

The starting point is that you need to claim contribution based JSA - urgently because you have paid the contribution towards it -if it was private insurance fund you would have claimed already.

Your missus needs to claim Working tax credit, child tax credit, local housing allowance and Council Tax benefit if they are eligible.

The idea is that you get some temporary help to see you over the period whilst you look for work rather than get into an almighty financial mess that wrecks your family.

Please do it ASAP. Most of it can be done on-line.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
