    Hi and welcome to MSE.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but you are not alone. There are many people on here in your situation who will help you.

Can I ask why you haven't applied for benefits? Have you checked if you are eligible for benefits?

Have a look at the benefits checkup page:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/benefits-check

I don't know much about IVAs etc so will that to experts to help you out.

Link to the CCCS, a debt charity, phone them or look at the website, a wealth of knowledge.

    http://www.turn2us.org.uk/

The link above will calculate the benefits you are entitled too.

If you could post an SOA, we will see if we can do anything to advise you reducing your income.

I will get a link for you in a moment.

welcome to MSE and the Debt Free board.

  • You should be getting child tax credits and child benefits for the children.

You need to sign on, as this will protect your NI contributions....i.e State Pension. You should be entitled to some state help as your partner is on a low income and a family of four. Check out the Turn2us website.

I will talk with my partner about the benifits. We have alway had a confortable life, and never had to look into benifits. Signing on for me......its like me admitting defeat  maybe hard to understand, but I have always been ontop of everything. I have brushed everything aside the last few months with one sole goal 'Locate a new job'

Are the CCCS a free service?

Is there anyway I can get the companies in question to give me a 3 to 6 month window? place everything on hold until I get a job?
If your sick/ill or something everything seems to be covered, unemployement seems different.......I don;t want to get into a IVA or anything that will mess my credit up :(

what I have learnt "Money really is not everything. It does help yes but I have almost lost everything and my family down to money........."

You aren't admitting defeat, you will be getting benefits you have contributed to by the tax and NI system since you were 15, they are their for troubled times, and you have hit that time....no shame in claiming benefits.

James, if you have already contacted the companies about giving you grace, then your credit rating will already be affected to some degree, don't worry about the credit score thing.

Yes, the CCCS are a debt charity and a free to use service, take a look at the website.

    Did you get redundancy payment?

James, may I ask, what did you mean by the last quote, you almost lost your family down to money?

Alot of us have been where you are, we can advise on debts, but can also lend an ear for sharing concerns/problems etc.
