daggy's wrong as he/she is only taking into account mileage, and not the short nature of the journeys. As above diesels (and petrols) don't do the advertised MPG until they're warm. Plus the potential DPF clogging. Plus a 3 door.0

Certainly not an older one.
3 miles wont be doing it any good, Especially a diesel it will still be warming up when the journey's over.
Petrol one will warm up a little bit quicker.
It will need servicing more often due to the type or journey's you will be doing.
I do lots of short journey's also, My car gets serviced every 12 months / 4000 miles.
We've currently got a 1993 Citroen, so a 2005/6 one is brand new in comparison.
I know a 3-mile journey is not going to be ideal, but it is the regular journey we have to make, so there's not much that I can do about it.
I don't understand your "it will need servicing more often", surely you'd get your car serviced every 12 months anyway, whether you are doing 4000 or 10000 miles? As above diesels (and petrols) don't do the advertised MPG until they're warm. Plus the potential DPF clogging. Plus a 3 door
If we get a diesel, it will be a DPF-free one.
And the missus wants a three door - style over function.0 -
I have the coupe 1.6D with the auto (DSG type) box. It's a great car with 54+ mpg easily (i'm a bit of a naughty driver...) and 60+ MPG if you're careful. The manual would no doubt be even better.
It's like driving a sofa, the seats are big and supportive and while not a powerful car really, it uses its 110bhp well and once settled with cruise control on its happy to go for hours. The engine is in Pug/Citroen/Mini/Ford/Mazda & Volvo models so well tested.
I tried one of the smaller petrol versions (1.4?) and it just needed to work a lot as its not a little car, that said they do some quick ones such as the VTS which seem to go pretty well!
If you google c4 owner you'll find the owners club where you'll find more information than you ever knew you wanted including lots of info on any depollution systems.
Few points to note
1) After the 58/09 plate they took a lot of fun features away such as dual zone climate due to the Euro exchange rate (I know you're looking at older models but the VTR+ should still have some nice toys in that age and citroen always make 'special editions' so worth reading up of vtr v vtr+ v vts etc...) - you should be able to download the sales brochure for that year from the owners club.
2) The rear access is really pants, you might shove a teenage in their, but anyone in a skirt or over 30 won't enjoy the experience, and getting out is equally fun with them generally lifting themselves up on the door while bashing the car next to them.
3) Rear visibility is fine for driving (you get used to the post box sized area) but parking sensors are a must as the rear is so flat.
4) If you have the citroen resolfen alloys the tyres cost about £160 for brand name ones!

Because of the short journeys i get mine done every 4000miles whether its been 12 months or not.
3 mile regular journeys, There is something you can do about it, Buy a smaller engined petrol car. They warm up faster and will use less fuel.
I only have mine because i tow caravans and trailers and need a large boot for a mobility scooter or electric wheelchair.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
OK boyse7en - so you won't clog up a DPF then with the short journeys, but my main point was that you won't be getting the MPG advertised on those journeys as the engine won't be up to operating temperature!0
