London - a laughing point for other countries

Have been watching several shows in North America the last few days. I saw a number of items where they were basically mocking London housing and Londoners as a result. This was sparked by that daft 77sq ft place that has been in the news but in this part of the world, they think that there is something mentally not right about people who buy into not only this but the market in general.

So there we have some anecdotal that the UK is furthering its image as 'a bit of a joke'.

This from a country that elected George Dubya for a second term......errr or did they?

But I get what your saying.

Still, take a look at the property surrounding Central Park in Manhattan. Apartments are $10 Million etc....it's not so different from say - Westminster.

The thing is, and a I've said this before in a previous thread about Japan, there's no point comparing isolated parts of an economy without comparing the countries as a whole, both economically and politically, after all, the constitution says you have the right to bear arms, or the right to arm bears if that floats your boat.

They were pretty clear that London is now the most expensive place to buy property in the entire world - Manhattan included (of course those central park properties are lost into the 'average').

Really what I am saying is exactly what you have pointed out. The US people are not necessarily known for their intellectual prowess but it is they who are finding us so laughable and stupid. They had people on from Manhattan who were accusing Londoners of extreme stupidity in spending so much money on so few bricks!

All anecdote but I found it amusing!

As an anecdote it is mildly amusing.

Still, take a moment to browse "The Hamptons" and get an average price for there.....and it's not all city living - I think, and I may proved wrong, but there's an Area of Wyoming that's actually the most expensive area of the USA in which to live, even more than Beverly Hills or Uptown Manhattan.

I still think Japan is more expensive, even after the crash and I wouldn't be surprised if Norway is also - very very high standard of living there.

I shall have to look up stats later and find something citable with respect to 'expensive places to live'. My previous comments were largely based upon the TV reports (several on different stations).
