iTunes No Connection

Am on Win 7 Ultimate x64 and have been using iTunes for 12 months plus now. Was on latest version which has stopped working so removed and installed older version instead. Recently tried syncing and get error:

iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection timed out.

Have unchecked proxy in LAN settings
Turned off Norton 360 firewall
