Samsung Home Cinema DVD help

Hi,

I have a
Samsung HT-THX22R Home Cinema DVD which has been working great untill I went to play a dvd tonight. I get the sound playing back fine but the DVD will not start. I have never had this issue before with it.

I have tried mulriple dvds and even tried an unopened one which I had bought for DH's xmas stocking. I should add that both of us are complete technophobes. The only thing that has changed is that DH decorated a few weeks ago and I asked him if he had disconnected anything and he said he only unplugged the extension socket that the dvd, sky box and tv plug into to move the TV cabinet.

Any help would be appreciated as tbh I cannot afford to buy a new dvd atm and over and above that we would probably mess up connecting it up:o

Does anyone have any ideas why we dont get any movie playback but do get sound and how to fix it

You say the DVD will not start, so what's' the sound that you hear?

    hi Spank

The audio track starts but the movie doesnt show on the TV. Normally what would happen is when I insert the dvd the movie or trailer etc would start to autoplay.

It still seems that it is doing that as I can hear the intro music fine but I am not seeing the movie on the TV. Whatever I have been watching on TV still carries on along with the sound from the TV.

In effect I get the dvd soundtrack soming throughh the surround sound cinema system and whatever I am watching on Sky on the TV. It almost seems that the connectrion between the TV and dvd player is gone but when I look behind the TV there doesnt seem to be any cables or wires disconnected. Not that either of us would know what it should look like anyway :o

You can tell by the poor explaination we are dummies:o
  • Look for a button on your tv remote that says AV .

While you can hear the dvd music keep pressing this button, your TV should cycle through each of its inputs in turn each time you press the button.

one of the inputs will be your dvd player and will show on screen when you get to it.

If it doesnt then your dvd is not connected for some reason.
“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”
  • Thanks again for the replies.

I don't have any button that says av. I do have one thatsays TV/DTV and one that says source. I have tried both of these an no luck. The cound is coming through the speakers great but it is just the movie that is missing.

I am pretty sure that it has been some button that has been pressed by mistake by someone but I guess we will just have to bite the bullet and get a repairman out :mad:
  • When you pressed the source button did it go through all sources sounds like there is a loose connection on either the dvd or tv if you can get the sound but no picture.

Are you plugged in via scart, av or hdmi?
  • thanks bengalknights

To be honest I wouldn't know and my DH would know less than I do.

It was all set up for us when the system was delivered and we just left it as it was and didn't fiddle with it. I have looked behind the TV into the morass of wires and there wasn't anything that seemed loose or disconnected

I do appreciate all the help from you all and I'm so embarassed at our lack of knowlege

One at a time, try unplugging then re-plugging all the connecting leads that you have. I have knocked scart leads in the past and lost the picture - the lead looked ok but it had just come out a little bit - enough to disconnect it slightly.
