I am a self confessed lover of prom dresses but I've never paid over £100 for one. Party dress season is coming up so it could be worth having a look in Tesco if you have one with a clothing department nearby. I got one there for about £30 one year. New Look also have a great range at this time of year and Debenhams seem to have dresses all year round but they're more expensive.
Never say never to trying antiques shops or vintage dress shops though, I picked up a bridesmaid dress for £10 at an antiques shop I found in the middle of nowhere once, they had a huge range that would've been perfect for prom but the shop itself was very hard to find and the locals were of a farming community that didn't seem too eager to dress up!
I hope she finds a great dress, good luck!Thank you competition posters!

I bought my daughters dress from a China based company on eBay, she picked the style out of hundreds then we sent her measurements, they then made the dress to fit. Cost less than anything I could buy here and looked stunning. Ironically my cousin married at a similar time and had the same dress (came as a shock) she paid six times the price. One of Martins emails had all the details of ways of getting prom/bridesmaids dresses cheaper a while back.0

If you live near Cheshire Oaks, Coast has a shop there and the dresses are usually at least half price. Plenty of other similar shops at the same prices.0

In fact there's tons of brands in there that will have suitable dresses, prom doesn't have to mean 'specially delivered dress from the US' or 'super expensive gown from posh dress shop'OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
