When you have your electric meter changed, how do the workmen turn the power of as so not to get electrocuted?
Because if you remove the meter, you're left with a live wire sticking out the ground.

There is a large black block usually with a service tag seal to see if you're stealing electricity (but in practice mine has never been checked, and never been noticed that I refused to pay £100 to an electrician for a new fuse box with trip switches for added protection, so ahem not that I'm condoning anyone would pull the service fuse to replace a fuse box themselves, and if you don't know what you're doing this is lethal and very stupid, that's cleared myself haha!)
These service fuses are meant to be changed every 30 years, and my distribution network guys came round to replace it, so I have no idea how they did this since they couldn't isolate the fuse! Am guessing they have a set procedure how to do this, like don't touch x when doing x, but they didn't have any specialist tools apart from electricians screwdrivers, no specialist clothing or the like.
Has anyone got a smart meter yet? I want one, but they are incredibly hard to get. They tell you how much you're spending in your house and are a really good way to monitor your usage.0
