ask your local chippy / takeaway; you may need to filter it a few times but they have to pay to have it taken away i believe so they might prefer to off load it0

Don't you need to pay the duty on this?0

only if you're planning on getting caught.0

I think you only pay duty if you use over 2500ltrs per year, more than enough for your average user.
The price of new veg oil has risen sharply recently (just like everything else), bookers c&c is up to about £20 per 20 litre, a year ago it was less than £15. My supplier has just gone up to £17.50, but is local so no use to you.
Scheming_gypsy is right that we used to have to pay to dispose of used oil, but now with the increase in the popularity of biodiesel I sell dirty oil to a local producer for 30p per litre, just seen on ebay the price is up to 50p per litre.
All I need is a knackered old diesel to run instead of getting 20mpg at 140.9p per litre.0 -
Anyone looked at black diesel?0

There was a documentary on BBC(?) about it the other week - think it wa Panorama0 -
no u dont have to pay duty if you are a domestic producer. I.e. less than 2500 lit per year.
Contact your local fire brigade and let them know you are storing methanol for the process.0 -

no ...google it ...wiki etc.....filtered waste engine oil and hydraulic etc...americans are messing around with it. i read an article on it a while back.
old engine oil is plentiful at the moment. think i read it works well on some vehicles, but emissions are a consideration.

I'm under the impression it's illegal to use WMO (waste motor oil) to run a car engine in the uk but I've not looked into it personally (on my to do list along with finding a used hydraulic oil supply).
I cant see you being able to buy new cooking oil and convert it to biodiesel cost effectively. With power and chemicals I'm around 20p a litre to convert.
Bio gives you less MPG (seen 10% banded about) so £1.26 a litre is probably comparable.
Get over to http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk and have a read.0
