advice please!

I was wondering if anyone would know the answer to this -

I have a cd rom installed on my pc running windows 7, it says it can also be installed on a mobile device upto windows 6.5. I was wondering if this could be installed on a tablet with a windows operating system?

Thanks

no, windows 6.5 is a mobile phone operating system, all windows tablets run a desktop version of windows (most likely windows 7), even new windows mobile phones actually run windows phone 7 which is entirely different to windows mobile

is it kaspersky the software by any chance?
  • Thanks for your reply. No its not kapersky. This is probably a stupid question, but if a tablet runs on a desktop version of windows is there no way it can be installed on it? Or are there any hand held devices you know of currently on sale, that run on windows 6.5?
    Thanks

'windows mobile' and 'windows' are entirely different operating systems the only thing they have in common is the name, therefore because the app is written for windows mobile 6.5 it wouldn't be able to run on 'windows',
also windows mobile 6.5 is a very old OS now and I would be surprised if you found anything that runs it nowadays (it used to be those old HP handhelds that run it and some smartphones)
it also has been succeeded by 'windows phone 7' now (a 3rd totally different OS) which new windows phones (like the nokia lumia 800) run, meaing the app won't run on those either.

to get a windows mobile 6.5 device you will have to look at 2nd hand, good news is they should be dirt cheap as all those products have been fully superseded now.
  • Thanks, so the cdrom that i have installd on my laptop, running windows 7 - can that go onto a tablet or have I completley misunderstood?!

yes (assuming that the licence key allows you to), because all windows tablets actually run the full desktop 'windows' (none I know of run either 'windows mobile' or 'windows phone' (microsoft prevents them from doing so))
therefore any app you can run/install on a 'proper computer' will also run on a windows tablet.

it wouldn't (for clarification) work on an android tablet or iPad though.
  • Ooooh! Thank you very much! You've made my day!
  • Sorry, one more question, how would you install it?

you would need the .exe file (which would normally be on the CD) and then copy it across to the windows tablet using a thumb drive, or a simpler way would be to (if you can) download the .exe from a website on the tablet and install using the product key that came with the CD
