Is my Gas consumption accurate ?
Options
Guys,
My Dual Energy Bill with npower has increased from £60/mnth about a year ago to what I feel is a pretty high £135/mnth now
We live in a 4 bed detached and are using about 3000kwh a month in the winter on gas. We both work so only have the heating on for 90mins in the morning when we get up and from 5pm to 9-30pm on an evening. Hot water is also on the gas but we only use it for washing and the odd bath. Everything else is electric.
Does 3000Kwh Gas seem accurate for this sort of useage coming in at about £90/month at the moment.
Is this high or have the prices just got stupid this year - It doesn't seem long ago our Gas was only about £30/month
Confused and fed up been ripped off
I'm moving to scottish power soon but would still like to know if 3000Kwh/month is comparable to other 4 Bed detached owners with lightish central heating use.
TIA,
Mike.

3,000kWh a month is not high for a month in winter for a 4 bed det.
Almost certainly your DD of £135 is because you have run up a debit balance which is being cleared.0 -
Thanks Cardew.
The actual charge is £90 for the 3000Kwh usage (worked out for a £180 cost over 2month for just under 6000Kwh usage). The acount itself is overdrawn because npower cocked up on the readings and said we had given them a reading of JUST 92 after 6months usage on our meter....can you imagine the defecit that has caused us !!!0 -
I have just moved from a 3 bed detached paying £100 pmth on gas and electricity combined. We have now moved to a 4 bed detached house and had the first months gas bill alone at £139!!!!
In my old house i used just under 3000kw for the 3 months period of OCt- Dec and now in this house we have used just over 3000kw in 35 days!!!!
Is this correct?
Yes it has been colder but we have only had the heating and water on 6am til 10am and then 3pm til 9pm.
Haven't had the lecky bill yet,but am dreading the bills in this house.
Phoned up the energy line and they seem to think our old house was a 13 year old house and we are now living in a house 3 times as big built in 1950's,so it will not have as good cavity wall insulation if at all.
Anybody else with families live in 4 bed detached homes know what their gas bills are???0 -

You can get modern 4 bed houses of 1,000 sq ft and some of 3,000 sq ft so 4 bed is not the criteria to judge consumption.
How warm you have the house, insulation, rooms used, efficiency of boiler, baths or showers etc etc all determine your bill.
3,000kWh in 35 days is not high for a large house.
Incidentally how does 3,000kWh in 35 days equate to £139 a month? If you were with a firm like Equigas that would cost £76 and even if you were paying an average of
3p/kWh that is still only £90.0
