Had a letter giving an appointment to have my electricity meter inspected by g4s. Managed to cancel appoinment until jan. Two questions:

Do they do a meter reading at the same time?
Is it mandatory that I have this?

Yes, by law they must inspect every 2 years and have the legal right to do so should you refuse entry.
    What''s your objection to this?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Why?

Is that to give you time to get rid of the growing room and reconnect the meter?

its a visual inspection of the meter, they do read. The regulation states they must attempt to read, unlike gas where they have to inspect 100% every 2 years
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

So what your saying is that they have to read the gas meter every two years but not the electricity meter

Would the 2 year meter inspection period be reset when you moved suppliers?

    From wiki:

There is a requirement for all UK electricity meters to undergo a health, safety and security inspection and meter reading every 2 years.[1][2] Electricity meters need to be replaced every 10 to 30 years, depending on the model.

This thread is really intriguing. Have you wired up your electricity to the outside street lamp? Or worse, your next door neighbour's supply? Why the desperate need not to have it checked? *scratches head*

I saw the visiting circus in the local park dig a trench to do just that.

    Interesting thread.

I have been in this house for 30+ years now.

Both meters are inside the property.

The electric meter is the same one as when I moved in 30 odd years ago, it has never been inspected, it is boxed in, the box would have to be removed to inspect it, this has never been done, dial visible through a slot for reading.

The gas meter is the same, ie boxed in with a reading slot, this was changed 13 years ago due to it developing a leak, though has never had a subsequent inspection.

So, one meter never inspected in 30+ years, the other not inspected over the last 13 years. :D

Out of interest, any one out there, with a similar long term residency with a similar experience, ie meters never inspected.

Likewise, anyone with a similar residency, say 20+ years, had several inspections.
