Exploiting Christmas at the supermarket?
Comments

I love going round the supermarkets christmas eve looking for bargains. Was still using bags of 5kg potatoes at 10p in july from last christmas. Luckily been invited out for christmas dinner so do not need to worry about that. Just remember to leave a little space in the freezer for any last minute bargains.0

This year we will be on holiday so no bargain hunting for me last minute...0

I prefer a lie down in a darkened room to shopping for bargains on Christmas Eve!

A new branch of Morrison's recently opened near me. I think I will have to wander down there on Christmas Eve to see what deals are being offered.Hoping this year is better than the last.

For the second year in a row, we've decided not to really 'celebrate' Christmas - in the past we'd have done the whole buying treats, presents thing, but the older we get (and more stretched finances become) the more emphasis has been on catching up with friends, having a good few days together, rather than anything materialistic. I don't see this as a bad thing

However, my husband and I were talking this morning about woopsed items, and about how few woopsies you get at our local supermarkets (we usually shop at Asda, but stories of £1 chickens and 5p loafs of bread is clearly something our local store manager hasn't heard of
).
So I thought about Christmas. When is the best time to go and maybe.. i don't know.. exploit the Christmas season for the purposes of stocking up on food for the freezer?? :T
Our local Asda is open 24hrs a day but I'm sure it's closed Christmas Day. So I guess Christmas eve just before it closes there might be meats and other fresh produce to bag for a bargain?
It's not something we've ever really thought of before - we'd normally do our food shopping a few days before Christmas... but it seems silly not to attempt to get in the MSE mindset at that time (as we do in every other week of the year).
Has anyone got any tips or advice on this topic?
:T
dont need to be sure about it as asda will be closed xmas day, depends what time your asda closes on xmas eve and if teh store is open the day after xmas eve.0 -

now that is a good idea, luckily i finish at 10am on saturday(xmas eve) morning so i then get to come home and not have to deal with the mad rush for the brussel sprouts or the turkeys and listen to the profanity when customers find theres no sprouts or turkey left.0 -
Whole shop Christmas Eve - Tearful and CRAZY !!! (people go mad even though only shut for 2-3 days!!!) If you go too late it's like a swarm of locusts have been in!!!!!!!
AND really how much food do you really need extra???
Midnight @ Asda - was CRAZY!! CRAZY!! CRAZY!!!
Store Cupboard and frozen in the week before and fresh very early Xmas Eve - Slightly less CRAZY !!
This Year ???
I bet all the slots for deliveries would be taken up well in advance!!0 -
I once did my christmas shop on the afternoon of 23rd December, never again will I go for it the middle of the afternoon. The queues at every till were from the tills through to the other end of the shop and this is a big Morrisons, it was madness. Then other times, I have been christmas eve, but gone around 8am and it has been fine, not too busy.0
