A question on address registration with the DVLA - please advise
I'm very confused on this and hoping someone can give me the definitive answer. I have recently moved to a property I own, but actually live between there and my partner's. For car insurance purposes it would be considerably cheaper to insure my car from my partner's.... but technically I'm only a guest there, albeit a lot of the time. So my question is in 2 parts - firstly can I insure my car from there, rather than my own property, and secondly do I therefore register the car at that address? Or can I register my car at my home address with the DVLA but insure it from my partner's address? This may seem a stupid question to ask, but we have a few young people at work whose car's are still registered at their parents' houses - often in suburban areas many miles away - but who actually live in, and drive their cars from, shared houses close to work, therefore avoiding the sky high city premiums. Is this legal? If it is it will save me hundreds of pounds a year.

The main question is where do you actually live? If the answer is at your partners address then insure the car there and also have it registered there. It could get quite messy if it came to a claim and the insurers found the car is registered at one address and insured at another, especially if you have not notified them of this. One of the questions you get asked when taking out a policy is if the the vehicle is registered or kept at an address other than your own, so that would need to be answered honestly."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Where the vehicle is registered with the DVLA is separate from the issue of insurance.
You will need to insure the vehicle at the address at which it will be kept.0
