Royal Mail - Something weird is going on

Ok so the other day I receive a letter addressed to me from the Royal Mail Returns office. I open it, and inside is a brown envelope addressed to a credit agency.

I open it, and inside it is a hand written letter from a non native english speaker, his entire cheque book, a bank statement, his NI number and a couple of other bits. No where in sight is my name or address.

Now here's the crazy thing, the post mark on his letter is August 15th, 2011! That's my birthday! This is 3 months ago!

Also the other crazy thing, I got this letter yesterday morning. Tonight I'm going to my sisters birthday party in north east london, over 22 miles away. The letter originated a few roads away from her home address! What is going on?!?!!

Also, I sent an item special delivery. It was a financial dispute with my old place of work (they owe me ~£6k wages and are going bankrupt I think). They claimed they never received the letter which I told them I don't believe them. Then yesterday as well, I got a phone call from a random man who said he'd been delivered my demand for money! He didn't want to give me his name and address understandably, he had been sent the letter in error and I thanked him and asked him to destroy it as it contains a lot of my personal information!

What is going on and what is up with this

Sorry, but I don't think you have given us enough information for anyone to try and work out what is going on.
  • I got sent something totally unrelated to me with tons of personal information in it, and also my personal information I sent registered delivery was sent to some random guy who phoned me up to tell me! The reason I paid extra money for registered delivery was because it was private and contained important information!

If it was registered delivery, the Royal Mail should have a signature etc. of the person who received it and time and place of delivery.

If your previous employer is going bust, was the person ringing you up and saying he had received your details just a bluff by them to try to "prove" that they had not received your letter?
  • I highly doubt it, the guy on the phone sounded completely bemused and also it coincides with this other weird letter I've got dated Aug 15th (my birthday?!!??!) so it looks like royal mail have screwed up big time

Am I entitled to compensation because my registered delivery ended up in some random guys house? I'm pretty !!!!ed off I paid for that and they just sent it to anyone.

Also with this mans letter with his cheque book in it's so near where I'm going tonight I think I'll drop by and give it back, he should also be very angry I could easily of emptied his accounts with this info

Write to royal mail then or ring them and ask for the proof of signiture for your item sent and ask why you have this other letter as the person waiting for that stuff has in the likely event had it all replaced by now.

As for trying to get money from a Company going bankrupt you have more chance of winning the lotto jackpot if they are indeed going bankrupt

Its a conspiracy!!! The reptilians, in cooperation with the Eighth Brotherhood Of Eternal Light (With assistance from rogue elements of the CIA) have rigged the postal system to implode on itself by 2012!!!
  • If you sent the mail regsitered and it was not delivered correctly, you should be able to go on line to the Royal mail web site and input the tracking number in the track n trace page. Assuming you have the receipt still. It will show where it ended up and if reg's should also show signature.

And you can claim upto 100 x stamps in value compensation for your hassle to from Royal mail.
There are a lot of things that seemingly go missing or get mis directed. I get stuff for others given to me. If it is just a mail shot I bin it, but otherwise I will drop it back into post box next time I go past one. Or if I know where the house is and it is on my route somewhere in my village, I have been known to deliver it.

you got your letter from the returns office?
so the letter you sent had no return address on it?
did you check the tracking of your original sD letter? Im betting it was not collected/refused
so in this case it would be a mix up at the RLB by the sounds of it.
of course given you didn put a return address, where were you thinking your personal details would end up?
  • what is 'non native english speaker' an excessively complicated term for then?
Come on, it's not rocket surgery is it?

I was thinking they would end up somewhere else, not at some random guys house.
