Switching suppllier - Debt to old one
Options
Hi,
sorry if thsi has been asked previously but cant find anything.
I have been looking at switching today but our accounts are in debit to our current supplier. Can I switch and transfer the debt to the new supplier or will they not allow it?
Currently dual fuel with british gas if it helps.
thanks

Simple answer no, they will not allow it.0

Depending on the size of the debt, they may allow you to switch, or may block it.
Either way, you owe BG the money and will continue to do so, unless they choose to sell the debt on to another party.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. You can't transfer the debt, no. The supplier may block the switch if the debt is over a certain level, usually around +£200.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
