Travelling in London

I'm going to be comming to London for a short break at the end of March. Until now I've always got travel cards for my journeys in and around London. I now see they've got a new scheme - this Oyster scheme. I'll be requiring a travelcard for three days, 2 of which I will only need off peak travel. Can someone tell me if I'd be better off with the Oyster card on Pay as You Go or whether I'd be better with a three day travel card. I come to London 2-3 times a year so I was thinking I might be better off with the Oyster. If this is the case where can I get one from? I was also looking into Oyster as I can get 2 for the price of one to see We Will Rock You.
I will be travelling with my mother who's a registered disabled pensioner. Did I read somewhere that they get free travel in Lodnon or is that just if you live there (or am I imagining things)? If she does have to pay she would only need three days off-peak travel and doesn't go to London very often (I think her last trip was 3 years ago). Is she going to be better off just getting Travel cards for the days we're there? Will will only be travelling in Zones 1.
Sorry for the long post but the more I look at the TFL website the more I get confused.

You'll only be better off with an Oyster if you are sure you will not be using the (BR) trains in London. Beware! you can not use Oyster on all all overground (BR) trains. Having said that, after using Oyster for a while now I can say that it generally works out cheaper, and it is easier to use. Make sure that you touch in and touch out - remember this if you use the DLR.
No, your mother will not be able use the Freedom Card.
Overall conclusion: Get an Oyster, seeing as you will be in Zone 1 only.Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. - Proust0 -
Oyster is def cheaper for pay as you go if you make a lot of journeys. You say you usually get travelcards - if you get a pay as you go Oyster, the fares are capped so it will stop taking money off the card as soon as you have paid as much as a day travelcard would have cost, if you see what I mean.
You can buy them at www.oystercard.com and have them posted to you.
Sorry, don't know the answer to the question about travel for your mum.
