My email account is sending spam

Just noticed my email has sent spam with dodgy looking links to everyone in my contacts list. They don't show up in my sent box but saw some failure to send emails in my inbox. I'm not very computer savvy so not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Firstly you need to tell us what operating system and version, windows or ???

Are you using a webmail provider, eg hotmail, yahoo, aol etc or your ISPs mail ?

If using your ISP what program do you use?.

Do you have ant-virus installed and kept up to date, have you done a scan with MalwareBytes ?


If you are using free webmail, then change your password, to something stronger and not easily guessable.

This has also happened to my husbands e-mail account this week and mine in the past.

We are with AOL.

We are on windows 7, we have microsoft security essentials installed and also a firewall on our 02 box. Microsoft automatically checks for updates each day.

I haven't done a Malwarebytes check though.

I will tell him to change the password.
