Cruise ship

Sorry if this has been asked before, did try to search! Going on a honeymoon in the med on a cruise next july. I believe everything is charged onto a board card in dollers. You can pay cash or card - credit or debit at the end of our 2week stay. I will take cash in euros to spend when off the ship. I have an m&s cc and BoS cc. Would you recommend using one of these cards to pay off the end of stay balance or appyling for another card? Or guessing the amount and changing cash into dollers before the trip? Thanks.

I`ve been on 9 cruises and always use my credit card to settle the bill. If you go on to one of the many cruising forums you may be able to pick up tips on which is the best credit card to use. Have a great cruise !

Halifax Clarity is probably the best one to settle up with. No foreign fees added.

Post Office have a similar card.

If you're happy to pay commission to buy Euros to take with you, the 2.75% charged on your card to pay in dollars will be peanuts in comparison.

    So do Saga.
  • I have just come back from a cruise on a Fred Olsen ship and they add 2.5% to the bill if paying by credit card.

I just look on all these charges as part of the costs of going on a cruise. After all what's £12.50 when you are spending £500 on booze. OK, they also charge £4 per person a day for tips so really £420 on booze. And the fags were cheap as well. I think I could get the booze down another £100.

At least they didn't add 16% service charge to the drinks like a lot of the American cruise lines do.

Fred Olsen charge in £ss so no currency conversion fees.
