hello all
i recently received a penalty notification in the post from civil enforcement ltd about our 1 of our pool cars overstaying the 90min limit at a macdonalds car park. the car is used by all staff tho i have a rough idea who was using it that day. i visited the macdonalds in questions to find that a camera is covering the entrance and another camera is covering the exit. i've been told by the team that no ticket was placed on the car on the day.
they want £60
they claim to have photo evidence, could this be right ? like i said when you pull into the car park there is a camera on a pole facing you.
could this be a stronger case for them / against us. i have made no contact with CEL
I'm aware this goes on driver and not keeper but what if they have images ?
what should i do in this case ?

Ignore them.
Any photo evidence will be CCTV footage of the vehicle entering and exiting the car-park, it could quite easily be 2 different drivers going to the same macdonalds and using dodgy software lumping the first entry with the last exit.0 -
Who cares if they have images? Did that make any difference in the fake PCN that the Watchdog solicitor held up? The one on the Watchdog clip linked on the sticky thread you will have read of course 'welcome, please read before posting'. Top of the forum you're posting on.
Secondly, just ignore it as already advised. Nothing happens.
See this pepipoo thread, read ALL of it:

Are you convinced it's a scam now?
Oh, and your company is not liable (in fact without being funny, it's none of your business, only the driver's and they must just ignore the scam):

The top thread on the forum shows you the letter-chain you staff must just...file in the bin. Please just educate your Fleet staff & drivers about this scam and reassure them that you know it's all a con and can show them proof if they need it.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

thanks, yes i did watch the video but the case seems to be that they go to dvla they pay a small fee and get keeper details which wont stand up if it went all the way. they need the driver details which is hard to prove.
but if they were to produce a clear image of the car entering then this must strengthen their case. they seem to have some pretty costly technology going into this now.
just wondering if they're firming up to take this further.
I spoke to the macdonalds manager today who give me an email address for someone at their customer services who he said 'would help'
i emailed today and await macdonalds response.
I dont intend on making any contact with CEL0 -
McDonalds NEVER help in this situation. They are very dismissive and will tell you to contact the scammers. DON'T!
Can't believe you are wasting so much time on a con. If you just read the links I gave you and you've seen the Solicitor on Watchdog I am amazed you are still bothered by this annoyance. You have seen what the Fleet industry says and you have seen that CEL do not do Court (did you notice the poster on the pepipoo thread had come back after a year just to update the thread to help people like you see that it's only a mail scam and the letters are the only thing that happens).
It's only like getting a burger king flyer put on the windscreen - bin it. Then bin the rest of the letters.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If you are looking after company cars and or a pool car for your company, you really need to wise up about the PPC scam for now and the future.
You still seem to believe they have some authority to give you some sort of ticket and that they would then pursue it because they had evidence of the driver over the RK. They don't and they won't!
You need to understand the business model of a PPC. The PPC issues fake PCN's which are just invoices, 65% or people just pay up, because they fall for the scam. So, the majority of people pay the £60 or more, as some start to ignore and cave in a little further down the line, falling for their scare tactics of debt collectors and legal action. So, this is a business and business is good.
The cameras are not enforcement devices like you think, they are just a more effective and convincing way of conning people out of more money and well worth the money for the money they can bring in... you are falling for it... you get the picture why they use them now!
Please just ignore them and wise up, you owe them nothing and they are not taking you or the driver to court!0 -
ok thanks for this, will leave it well alone and await their next instalment of garbage in the post :rotfl:
no doubt there'll be follow up letters, had a look through the letters on here and I now know what to expect.
the macdonalds in question is near to a footy stadium and no doubt macdonalds are just trying to deter people from using its car park for matches and events. the car park i would assume is private land and owned by macdonalds.
would this be the same as if someone parked their car on my private land, for example someone parked their car on my driveway all day and went to work. how would i tackle that ? hmmm
just curious thats all

sorry, just to clarify sequence of events
1 - got ticket in post yesterday morning (unaware at this point it was a scam)
2 - went to macdonalds spoke to manager
3 - returned to office, sent email to cust services as instructed
4 - googled this after work and and found this thread and more info
of course if i'd found this info first i wouldnt have waisted 'so much time' engaging in points 2 & 30 -
2&3 are not necessarily wasted. If enough people do this it may curtail the ppc's efforts. It may not cos lots of maccy d's managers just cant see the problem.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
