Hi

My mate has no access to internet and was asking me if it is possible for him to claim DLA.

He is blind in his left eye and wasnt sure if this was included or not?

I need to get back to him asap about it as he has the forms that he needs to hand in by a certain date.

  • as far as i know you would have to be registered. (with a specialist ) from the hospital you get a special form from then saying what your eye score is (both eyes)
so if you have 20/20 vision in one eye you may not get it.
i am no expert so ask your doctor.
you then have to register yourself with social services( if i remember rightly) for a card which states if your partially sighted or registered blind.
only then can you apply for DLA you need to send this card off when you claim as your proof.
have you seen a specialist that said you had no vision in one eye. cos there the people to start the ball rolling with.
At last I have a signature.

loopy can your mum not get aa? i cant understand why she cant get dla anymore just because she is in a nursing home.

excuse me if im rude, but if your mum is a poensioner she should be allowed to claim AA.

OP i cant see why you cant claim DLA. i came accross a claim today where the claimnt received low rate DLA because of his limited sight.
There's someone in my head, but it's not me

Possibly because her care needs are met by the nursing home.

if you are blind in one eye surely you are 20/0 at best? I thought it was left eye/ right eye score on a scale of 0 to 20?

  • i have very limited vision in one eye but good vision int he other eye. i have been warned by my opticion (sp?) that if/when i loose sight in my good eye i would then be legally blind despite having limited vision in the other eye but until then even if i loose sight completely in the bad eye i still would not count as blind.

My friend over the road from me, her daughter had leukaemia and was on DLA for some years, the daughter lost sight in her eye and ended up with a false eye. In Nov last year she had her DLA taken off her as they said being blind in one eye was not enough to cause disability as she still had sight in her other eye!

My bf lost hsi sight in one eye in november - no apparent reason , have been to doctors, hopsital, specialists and are now waitign to see another specialist in february

he tried claiming disability but they said he needed another sick note from his doctor adn his registered blind card - he can see in his other eye, not in his right eye.

I will be watchign this thread carefully

I can't understand what a sick note would have to do with it? Did DLA request it? Many people work while in receipt of DLA.

I am no expert but I believe "partially sighted" can be entitled to DLA. I would think it will depend on individual circumstances and how it affects you.

You have nothing to lose by claiming... good luck.
  • Heres an idea, you could get an eye patch and star in the next "Pirates of the Caribbean" film!! No need for DLA then! ;)
