Problems with BT

I have been with BT since May of this year after being talked into going back with them by one of their telephone reps. Since then I have had no end of problems. I have now complained and been offered £10 compensation for a days pay I lost at work (I actually lost £80) through their engineer not turning up and it taking them a week to get some one out to me, and they have wavered a late payment and connection charge that shouldn't have been put onto my account in the first place. I have now told BT that I wish to change providers as I feel they have broken their contract with me in many instances, but they have now told me if I do change I will have to pay £253.00 charges because my contract was for 18 months. Can anyone tell me if they can get get away with this ?. I have again been without a phone for over a week because of a mistake on their part with my billing, and it has cost me over £30 in calls to them from my mobile trying to get the problem resolved. Can anyone out their give me any advice, thank you

Connection charge what £135, Late fee???, would be more than your £80 you would have spent.

So your making £10 profit. Dont see the problem.
  • Pcombo I think you have read my post wrong......They applied a reconnection charge of £18.00 and a late payment fee of £7.50 onto my bill that shouldn't have actually been on there. They have said they will credit my next bill with it .......i was without a phone line for over a week on 2 different occassions and all they have offered me is £10 compensation for losing a days work. they have still charged me the rental on those 2 weeks. I phoned almost every night for a week to try to resolve the problem and each time was told the phone would be put on within 24 hrs which never happened and I was even lead into setting up a direct debit by one of their advisors which they said would ensure my line was connected within 4 hrs, that never happened either. I then had to email and complain before my line was put back on. In that time My father was taken ill and no one could contact me via my landline and my mobile had been constantly engaged for hours trying to contact BT to try and resolve the problem. All this was a mistake on their part and they have accepted liability and appologised, but have told me I cannot change providers unless I pay £253.00 ! I hope that has made it more clear.
  • I had serious problems with BT when trying to set up a telephone line and internet access. Didn't get anywhere trying to resolve issues on phone - told me I had to wait a couple of weeks to get connected (after being connected and disconnected by mistake 2 days later!).

I contacted OFCOM one afternoon by telephone (my mobile) and lo and behold an engineer was out at 0830 the next morning to sort out my line/internet.
