If you're talking Silver Saver then sort code 086064 followed by your account number with NR. Reference is anything you choose so you know where it's come from when it appears in your Silver Saver account, eg 'my Nationwide' etc. I always try £1 transfer just to prove it works followed by the amount you want to transfer, subject to the limit you are allowed.

You can transfer by BACS using sort code 08-60-64 plus your own eight digit (Northern Rock) account number. Use the same 8 digit account number as a reference if possible.
I have similar account and have made deposits this way without any problem. Not sure where I got the info, but believe it was on the secure website. Nevertheless before you transfer any money using info from here - suggest you call NR to ensure their directions marry up ok.
