HOW? chargeable or inclusive calls

Apologies if lots of people have already asked this.

I get all phone calls and broadband via AOL/Talk Talk but have line rental via BT.

Every quarter BT bill me more than £8 because I haven't made 6 or more chargeable or inclusive calls.

Please, how do I make such calls, i.e. by-passing Talk Talk.
Do I prefix 6 phonecall numbers with a code?

Many thanks
Wendy :o

A code of 1280 comes to mind, but can't remember if its for talktalk to bt or the other way round :o

    Edit:

Would appear to be correct, see http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/oftel/ind_info/numbering/ocodes.htm#access. Click on the link "access codes" about half way down the page and it downloads a spreadsheet of all the access codes
  • Hello ex-dmp, thank you very much indeed for this.

I have now done google searches for "1280 BT" and "1280 talktalk" and the whole can of worms is there for me to see! Looks like Talktalk overrides the 1280 prefix. Sigh!

Now to decide if it's cheaper to just pay the £8 each month or move everything. Another Sigh!:(

I suspect the true answer is "you cannot" because, IIRC, although AOL used to provide its calls package via CPS, it now does so via BTW's WCLI product and that does not allow the use of the 1280 prefix.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

You might want to consider, if you're out of contract with BT, either moving to an all inclusive package which may work out cheaper in the long run if you make little in the way of calls.

Or consider moving the line rental to TalkTalk or any other provider. Considering BT line rental is going up to £14.60 a month from Dec 3rd and you can already effectively cut this by a quarter by moving provider and keeping your number. Other packages don't have a minimum call volume, as well as undercutting BT on the line rental, significantly in some cases.
