PC Wont Boot Getting This Message Please Help

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt :\windowssystem32\config\system
you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows using the original setup cd-rom select r at the first scree to start repair
Ive tried the above which it suggests but still no joy

try booting from the xp cd, go into recovery console, and do a chkdsk c: /F/R
was it shut down properly?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
My son is now gonna give that a go ...Its been so long im not sure how it was shut down .I will let you know how he gets on ..Thanks again0
