Try reinstall via tools add ons .

You may need java but you can wait until a sites says it will require java to work .

I got the message about Java not being compatible with FF8, but when I tested an applet it seemed to be working fine. What happens when you try?
As for the Google toolbar, are you sure you even need it? You can search Google (or another search engine) via the search box at the top-right of the Firefox window. Personally, I'd uninstall it anyway...0 -
No, you don't need Java and it is used extensively by malware writers.
I have it installed but disabled for the odd time that I need it.
The Google tool bar is notorious for tracking your online activities and can be a resource hog. I recommend Googlebar lite. Currently working fine with FF8 and can be switched on and off as required.

The Java plugin in: 'Add-ons > Plugins' is the component used for running Java Applets.
I too keep Java updated but disabled for security reasons. Not many web pages use Java applets and I haven't noticed the lack of it so far. I can enable it if needs be.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0 -
No, you don't need Java...
Well, you don't need a computer either!
But you'll obviously need Java installed to run any Java applications or applets.
If you're unsure, you could always uninstall it. You should just be prompted to re-install it if/when you try to run an application or web page that depends on it.0 -
Will google not conflict with ff8 if it says incompatible?0
