Set-up help required please

Can someone talk me through this - slowly!

I have just bought a DVD Recorder with HDD and freeview, and trying to set up video recorder to it.

I cannot get very good reception with freeview, I have a new aerial on the roof and also one in the loft, and have a Masterplug aerial booster sitting by the side of me waiting to get plugged in. Are these things any good?

So...... At the moment I have aerial from wall into DVD recorder, aerial from DVD to TV, scart lead from DVD to TV, Scart lead from video into DVD. Not working, so can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

  • firstly are you in a good area for freeview reception....and is the new aerial that you had a digital one
  • We live in Shropshire, nearest transmitter is the Wrekin which is 8 miles away, but all the neighbours aerials seem to point to Sutton Coldfield.

As for the aeriel, believe it is a digital one.
  • we only have an aerial in the loft and that works fine with freeview...just lucky i guess....are you running the aerial direct to the dvd player and then a scart or RF cable from the back of the dvd into the TV?
  • sorry clareski just read your first thread again.....i would dissconnect the video and just concentrate on dvd recorder....if you then need to try to add the video you can try to do so...witht the dvd recorder you will use it less and less anyway although i understand that you must still have lots of videos either you or your kids watch
  • I managed to do this last night and was really chuffed with myself - easy set up with the aerial from the wall into the DVD, aerial from DVD into TV, scart connecting the two. Managed to watch some blurry channels on the DVD, some were ok though (shopping channels - typical).

My problem started when I plugged the video recorder in, and connected a scart from the video to the DVD - nothing would work. All I want to do is to transfer some stuff from videos I have recorded off the TV and put them onto the hard drive of the DVD, eventually storing them to disk.

    Where have I gone wrong?
  • Just as an update - I have now disconnected the video so I am just left with the TV and DVD. Via freeview I can only get certain channels, but on the bright side I have managed to find a couple of programmes which I recorded onto the hard drive last night.

Next will be - how to connect the video to transfer things I taped from tv onto the hard drive.

Also getting a decent signal for freeview. When I put my postcode onto the freeview website it says I can receive all channels, but a lot are coming up as 'no signal'.

Thanks for any help in advance
  • hi again clareski....i know our tv is set up different but it goes like this:
    TV aerial goes into freeview
    TV out goes into video
    Freeview scart to video
    scart from video to tv
Aerial out in video to TV
