Alert Service

I'd like a service that gives me reminders at predetermined times. I don't want it to send me emails but just to popup a message and make a sound through the Internet. There are alarm clocks on the Internet which will give me an alert but there's no scope to set more than one reminder nor to specify a message to go with it.

Does what I want exist?

Thanks.

It will help if you posted your PC type and operating system.

There are no doubt loads of options. It sounds as though you don't want it to be "in the cloud", moving from place to place as you do, so why not have something locally rather than on the Internet?

The Lightning add-on to Thunderbird has pop-up reminders for tasks, which I think would serve well.

I prefer to use the countdown timer on my basic Nokia phone, because it is always on me - so it doesn't matter if I'm away from the PC for a few hours - and it allows you to set a title in case you forget what you set the timer for!

That's great, thanks. I have my diary on Google which links to my smartphone. I don't want it to give me reminders. I now have Lightning on my computer which gives me reminders for things that need doing on my computer. If I'm not at my computer when those reminders go off then they can't be done so a reminder on my smartphone would be useless.

what you want is called a "calender" google has a good one
It links you your android phone and, usually, your email program so it will pop up a message of your choosing on what ever device you are using...
