Hi,
Be careful when buying a TomTom (especially off ebay) that you are buying the current version.
The original TomTom one has been discontinued and replaced by a 'new' TomTom (sometimes referred to as a TomTom One v2. Although the differences aren't much, the new one is of slightly different design and slightly more up to date maps (though you can purchase them for the old version at extra cost).
The new version is sold in a Great Britain (orange box) and a European version -- basically the SD card that holds the maps comes with only the UK only map on it or with UK and Europe maps.
A word of warning. The standard TomTom package does not come with a wall plug recharger or protective case (some retailers have sold these as a kit in the past).
You can either use the included car cigarette lighter plug or the included computer USB lead to recharge the internal battery.
You can get a TomTom branded wall charger or case at about 20 pounds each in PC World and a number of other stores, although there are cheaper alternatives. Just ensure they are suitable for the 'new' model.
You may want to check http://www.pocketgpsworld.com or http://www.pcw.co.uk/personal-computer-world/hardware/2171696/review-tomtom-europe-sat-nav for reviews of this and similar products.
Note also that to use a number of services you have to subscribe to them at extra cost e.g. traffic alerts or speed camera data after a months trial. Similar to other systems, you may also need a suitable mobile phone with Bluetooth and GPRS to make full use of some features such as reporting / receiving updated speed camera data on the road, weather info and live traffic updates -- this may add to your costs in use.
Hope this helps0 -
