Black screen gone missing

Has anyone got any ideas why the win98 pc has just stopped putting on the black screen after its been left so long?

I never had a screen saver set or did anything else to any settings it just stopped doing it by itself. If I leave the pc for any reason it just stays on with the screen on view

try control panel > display > screensaver tab > Power button in the bit that has half a globe saying energy [then a star next to it] > then the turn off monitor pulldown menu and select any option you want

I've never touched that though and it always used to go to the black screen if I left it for a short while so something may have changed by itself I don't know but anyway these are the settings now there:

power schemes - always on

settings for always on power schemes:

system standby - never

turn off monitor - 15mins

turn off hardiscs - 1hour

Is there anything wrong there as I've not changed anything?

my power scheme is 'Max battery' and my system standby is set to after 20 mins on my win xp computer
