Panasonic DVD recorder

I have a Panasonic DMR-ES15
Only just found out it won't play my American DVDs. Is there any way of making it multi region?

I just had a look around and it seems there isnt a hack.Looks like it has to be "chipped" i didnt look on ebay though. You can always try there.

No, you can unlock it, if you have a device which has an infrared port. A laptop, PDA or something like this.

I used my laptop to do this, which has a built in infra red port and made a boot CD with DOS and the file on it.

Don't actually understand how to do but am very impressed that someone has sussed it. Think I will have to put the American DVDs away until I need to buy another DVD player.

To change the player region code
1. Be sure players drive is empty (nodISC)
2. Enter following key sequence using remote control:

Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 00F2, Audio, 8, * requested region code here (1-8) *, Subtitle, 1

3. Player will reset and requested region code will be set.
- For example to set region code to 3 press: "Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 00F2, Audio, 8, 3, Subtitle, 1"

To set the player to RCE proof region free
1. Be sure players drive is empty (nodISC)
2. Enter following key sequence using remote control:

Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 00F2, Audio, 8, 1, Subtitle, 4

3. Player will reset and set to "region-free" and "RCE-free" mode

To restore players factory region code
1. Be sure players drive is empty (nodISC)
2. Enter following key sequence using remote control:

Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 00F2, Audio, 8, 9, Subtitle, 1

3. Player will reset and set to factory region code

Agreed, but the method I suggested works with a standard PC with infra red, which is what I had available to me.

Also the "issue" with Panasonics is that the standard remote can't send the 00F2 code; the button isn't present. So you either need a programmable remote, or another way to send the infra red code.

is the timer switched on? switch it off and try it.

on my panasonic if i play the american format it won't play till i switch off the timer or change the playback format from PAL system to NTwhatever it is for the american format

when on timer mode it will only playback the format it is set, which in my case PAL
