    Hi Op.
Place a bucket next to your work station and when asked 'why it is there?' Tell them that it is all down to the amount of coffee avaliable and you would just HATE to have another 30 mins to make up a day by going to the loo.
Of course they could install a smokers Loo and kill 2 birds with one stone?
OMG I have just realised I may have opened up a debate about how long is normal for a toilet break!
  • Hehe I like your thinking.

Next memo will be about excessive toilet roll usage, we'll be allocated 3 sheets per day and after that it's down to you to make the choice of buying more or hand...
  • Or have toilet paper made of rizzla then its up to each of you whether a smoke is important or not!

Oh and I am a smoker too before I get flamed.
  • I haven't flamed anyone have I? Not entirely sure what that means to be honest so maybe I did. Apologies if its something bad. Rizla toilet paper is a great idea, would sort out the men from the boys and make hand shaking that bit riskier...

Not from you, any post that is in any way pointing the finger at smokers gets a lot of flack from people (flaming).

Now that sounds very eco friendly although there would have to be an H&S sign advising smoking the roll up first then ensuring it is no longer hot and finally .. er well finally ..;)
  • Ahh cheers, flaming smokers seems fitting I suppose.
  • This thread has taken a very odd turn indeed! Think I need a smoke & a coffee, maybe the loo as well, seperately of course!

I am male ;). I have spoken to my boss who doesn't want to get involved and spoken to his boss with him present who also doesn;t want to get involved. I have emailed the woman asking for clarification of the rules, which she supplied along woth some other irrelevant comments. I emailed back saying I didn't agree with the way she is handling this and asked for a breakdown of the deduction which never materialised. They seem to be hoping this will just be dropped but it is difficult when I will be expected to work extra time with no extrapay, yet get deducted for an unspecified amount of time at their whim.

    Grievence time for the deduction.

AS I said who has given this person the authorazation to make these rules up, that is the person you need to speak to, go right to the top and work down if your own boss won't get involved.
  • Okay a company (and this was before the smoking ban) I worked for did the following and it worked.

Those who smoked, they could go out and have their smoking break (Most actually would be about 15 minutes or longer and more than twice a day). They were happy.
Those who didn't smoke, they could leave early on a Friday due to not having the smoking breaks - they were happy.

No-ne had time deducted - those smokers who complained (because it was usually them who did!) just got told that if they didn't take their smoking break they could also leave early on a Friday - soon shut them up.

You have a choice though - smoke or don't smoke. If you don't always get your smoking break, you can't be that reliant on them. It is not really a right to have a smoking break a lot of companies now don't have them and you have to have a smoke during your lunch. If you take your smoking break and it's unpaid for 15 minutes - take the full 15 minutes and have two!

If you are on a clocking on and off system then I personally cannot see how this is happening anyway - you are not clocking out for a 15 minute break. Isn't this what they use to do wages and not the list for who is on a smokers list?
