Noise problem on pc conecting to speakers

Hi and wonder if someone can help me solve a problem. Whenever I connect my pc to my sound system to play my music it makes lots of noise ,think its the fan etc that I can here, I connect it via the headphone out socket on the pc.
Any help would be most appreciated thanks.

Have you checked that the volume level is high enough? If too low the external amp will exaggerate any noise on the output.
Otherwise, if it had digital out as well, an external DAC should solve the problem completely, but at a cost. If your sound system has an AV decoder, it should already have one though, with a corresponding S/PDIF digital input.0 -
