I think it's quite clear that Hitachi simply don't believe the bit about giving the sofa to the friend.
To be fair to them, it would be very easy for anyone's estate to be "given away to friends a couple of years ago". We could all just say that and creditors would never receive a penny when anyone dies.
It seems to me that this is why their letters have repeatedly stated "the sofa is part of the estate and must be sold". They are pressing this point because they think you are trying it on. Given the low value of the furniture it does seem ridiculous.
You've been given good advice by people here though. Don't stress out. One last letter and you can forget about it.0 -
Email the DFS CEO.
As suggested in my earlier post.
Write back to teh solicitors and tell them in a plain simple 4 line letter.
The estate has been disposed of to discharge all assets. After payment of funeral expenses, there is no remaining funds to settle debts.
This is inline with the legal requirements regarding deceased estates and debts.
Any further communications other than confirmation that this matter is closed will be treated as harrasment and a complaint will be lodged with the relevent governing bodies.
Thats it - nothing more.
And dont get too stressed, there is plenty of support for you here, but please follow ALL our advice that will give you teh best chance of getting this resolved.0 -

In response to you saying "I think it's quite clear that Hitachi simply don't believe the bit about giving the sofa to the friend."
On the actual agreement form the delivery address is a completely different address to my nans address, plus its written clearly on the DFS agreement form 'Buying for granddaughter' (my nan classed our family friend as her granddaughter as she is good enough family just not blood related).... so I dont know why they would think im lying unless they are really thick and cant read lol0 -
In response to others who have posted advice. I really appreciate it and I will use what yous have said in my next letter to them. I might say to them they can cover my postage costs to them beings I have lost my job n wont have any income

twilighter...good luck but at the end of the day what can these clowns do? if i was you i would tell them to do one..then ignore them unless they issue papers, then the fun would begin...It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0
