Are the AA £28 & RAC £29.99 policies any good for me?
Need to renew my car insurance & as my car is nearly 4 years old I'm thinking it might be time for breakdown cover (got the first 3 years free with the car).
I can't really change tyres (when I had a puncture I had to drive it to the nearest garage as SIL couldn't get wheel off - apart from that one, they had never been off- garage had to use a huge lump of wood & hot it from behind to get off), so I would like a policy that would change a tyre for me.
I do a few miles on the M25, so recovery is important.
I seperated in May - so money is very tight & I don't need big recovery bills or garage bills (if they take it to the nearest - not my choice).
Are the AA £28 & RAC £29.99 policies any good for me?
Is the AA better?

Whatever you choose, go through topcashback and get cashback on them. The basic policies above pay about £20 cash back
So about £7 a year for your first year.
Read Martin's guide:

Oh, and if you do take out this year with topcashback cash, next year ring up and haggle when they renew and want the full premium. I have never known them not to knock the price down.0 -
Upgrade to the cover that takes you and your car to any destination e.g local garage near home. The basic cover usually only covers within 10 miles of the breakdown with recovery to their "approved" rip off garage partners. If they can't fix you at the roadside.0

Can you really buy a £28 policy & get £19.19 cashback?
Am I reading this right?0 -

deffo use topcashback/quidco etc which ever gives back the most.
As already pointed out above if you ever travel more than 10 miles from home then get cover that will take you and your car to any destination rather than a garage within 10 miles as it can be very costly especially if you have a trusted mechanic near home. You'll also be up the creek if the garage can't fix it that day and your 100 miles from home, you'll have to stay overnight or how ever long it takes them to fix it which can push the price of repair even further!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

YEP, thats what it is - as I said for the first year you get the cash back but the next year they will try to renew at full whack. Make sure you ring up to cancel and they will almost certainly drop the price to something much more acceptable. But then I have just about all the cover they offer, not just the basic one.
Worth it for peace of mind. Ive been stuck on a road at night with lorries thundering up and down and Ive never been SO pleased to see the AA man arriving. And always tell them you are a woman alone if you have to ring up - you will get priority.0 -
Not really - when you consider how many women are assaulted - I guess most men wouldnt be seen as an easy target like a lone woman is?0

I have green flag assistance as I woldn't have the cinfidence to drive on any wheel that I had managed to change. Find a good local garage for anything else that your car needs.
The one I use even helped my daughter out when her car broke down outside my house and came out, sorted it (2 minute job) and drove it back to their garage for a checkover and didn't charge her." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I have just signed up with the AA through TCB today for £28 with free home emergency cover included, but went through TCB, cashback is only £19.19, but they should match the Quidco cashback which is £21.0
