Would HD receiver plus PVR work?

Hi all you clever people.
I've been searching online for a couple of days but can't find the answer to this so thought one of you might be able to tell me:
I have an HD ready TV and a PVR. If I buy an HD receiver can I link it to both TV & PVR to view and record in HD or do I need to get a new HD PVR?
I'm sure someone out there can tell me.

You won't be able to record in HD on an SD PVR, though depending on its external interfaces, the PVR may be able to "downscale" and make SD recordings.

To get the full benefit you would need HD in all 3 - receiver, recorder and playback device.

PVRs are almost always (if not 100%) unable to record stuff from other sources. They have their own inbuilt tuners and that is all they can record - so you can't go plugging in VCRs, DVD players, HD receivers, Sky boxes etc and record them onto your PVR.

2 remotes etc too? No thanks. If you have a look at the back of your PVR and see inputs (SCART, composite LABELLED INPUT) then you can record into it. But that's just far too much hassle. Put the old PVR to use somewhere else, or sell it to part fund an HD PVR.
