DVD drive issue

So, I've just got a new laptop, and I'm having a slight issue with the DVD drive, in that it doesn't seem to recognise some of my DVDs. So far, this problem has only arisen with DVDs from one box set - other DVDs I've tried play fine, and I haven't had a problem with CDs. It isn't an issue of the region of the DVDs, and the DVDs play fine both in my DVD player and in another laptop I've tried. The driver software is up to date. Can anyone suggest anything?

It may be that it's a new drive on early firmware. What tends to happen is that the first batch of any new CD/DVD drive product ships with a bug-ridden firmware, which is then rapidly patched.

First port of call would be where you bought it, as that's where your statutory rights lie...

Thanks. Will the firmware updates be automatically downloaded? If not, what's the best way of checking for them?

Will get in touch with the store if necessary, but wanted to see if I could sort it myself first.

You need to go to the manufactures site and download the firmware .

I would suspect its just those discs are incompatible it happens sometimes . l would give them a wash in soapy water to remove any grease as a first step .
