Supermarket shopping online

Nope one I wouldn't use again is Sainsburys, I like the bit that lets you know if short shelf life, but the driver was rude, there was so many mistakes like ready to roll icing instead of a cake, gave up. ASDA I like, guys are lovely, but have had OUT OF DATE items before, as in a week out, they shouldn't have even been on the shelf, complained and they refunded the items. Tescos I am trying next, better offers than in ASDA imo.One day I might be more organised...........

I did both Sainsburys and Tescos a couple of years ago when they first started doing it. I found them awful, their substitutions were ridiculous, they were always late and depending on the time of day they picked the order so I found they'd run out of a lot of stuff (after all if they are picking from a store near you it's full of people buying all the things you want too if you pick a busy time of day.) So I tried Ocado (I live in Bucks) which is a partnershp with Waitrose and it's brilliant. I am a terrible impusle buyer and it stops me doing that completely. It is more expensive, but only pennies overall and what I lose there I make up for heaps in not impulse buying. There are one hour slots which they always keep to and hardly ever make mistakes. I only ever go into a supermarket now if I absolutely have to and try to take a FIRM list with me, but am still very easily attacked by temptation.0

Yes, certianly Sainsbury's were very bad in those days - idiotic substiutions and bad at keeping times, but they are SO much better these days. I only get one or 2 subs now days and they are usually proper ones. Time keeping is better too. I looked at Ocado, but they don't seem to have the choice/variety of the other shops, and each time I have tried to use them I can only find 1/2 my shopping list! Gave up on them.morganlefay wrote:I did both Sainsburys and Tescos a couple of years ago when they first started doing it. i use tesco all the time. there is a part where u can add notes to the item and i often say longest date please or give information about how i would like the product. but i have found that if a product isn't as i would buy it , i just phone them and mention it and they are happy to refund. i don't take the biscuit tho . i only phone if there is a real need.
the one prob i have found tho is 3 times in a row they didn't have the nappies in stock i wanted , but they didn't even subsitute them . which i found annoying as it meant i had to then make a journey to supermarket . which led to temptation.0 -
I don't have a car so have used internet shopping for as long as it has been available. I have Sainsbury's Tesco and used to have Iceland available in my area. I have seen it change over the years. They used to make terrible substitutions but not so often now. I don't tend to use it for fresh items because it is just such a gamble on what you are going to get. I do have a once a month shop for all the heavy items such as tins, soap powder, juice etc plus any dry goods that I still buy at the supermarket. This leave me free to go and get my veg from the market and select my chilled items myself. I often wonder what the shoppers make of my shopping cos it is nearly all value items and some months I have to push it to make it past the £50 needed to get free delivery (use the codes from the code site)True wealth lies in contentment - not cash. I do one big shop online with Tesco every 6-7 weeks or so. I get discount vouchers from MSE and get either £50 worth (with £5 off) or £80 (with £10 or £12 off).
I only get big stuff that's heavy or boring...! Tins, washing powder, washing up liquid, toilet roll, butter, flour, pasta, cous cous etc etc. I get two 6 x 1 litre packs of semi-skimmed milk (long life) as this saves lots of money on milk and also saves the 'Oh, I just need to get milk' trips that end up costing a fortune.
The stuff I don't want to buy weekly basically.
I then go to veg market/butchers once a week for other bits to ensure they are fresh and I can pick them myself.MFW #185

Hi
Thanks to everyone for their advice.
I today did my first monthly shop and I went to Morrisons - never again. In future I will do it online.
My trolley was that full I could hardly push it and I had to hold on to some things so that they didn't fall off! I had to leave some items as I just had no more room.:p
For this type of monthly shop for tins, washing powder etc I will do it online (I think Asda is free delivery if I use their credit card) and continue to support local businesses for my locally reared meat, eggs, fruit and veg etc.:T

If you have a look on the discounts and codes board on MSE there is usually codes to use for free delivery. I find the delivery cheaper than the petrol to some. Like ASDA, nearests a good drive away which is say £8-9 in petrol, I'd use free delivery/money off so would not have to pay that and got money off too, then there was the resisting in temptation. I must start shopping online again.
