Hi all,
Have seen a lovely little terrace that could be our first home! :j Am now stressing about which solicitor to go with and what it will all cost!!!!
I have heard prices for conveyancing can be as little as £175 or in the thousands! We cant afford thousands and are now afraid. I have only got one quote so far off a local solicitor and she told me £780 for everything including searches and money laundering(?!). Is this good? Has anyone on here dealt with any conveyancing solicitors in the South Manchester/Stockport areas they would reccomend?
BTW asking price of house is 124,950

Your best bet is to call a few solicitors in your area from the phone book and get a few quotes. Im not far from Manchester and the solicitors here charge around £500 for the purchase. You also have the option of using online services I heard these people are very good http://www.leadbank.co.uk/sawleandco/ and there’s another https://www.abodeconveyancing.co.uk have a few recommendations on here0

I have had a quote of £520 from a solicitor which seems reaonable as online were around £650. Under £200 seems very unrealistic though as the fixed costs the solicitor pays must be around this. What you may have heard as £200ish is likely to be just the solicitors fee without everything else on top.0

We're fairly near Manchester and have been quoted between £770 and £890 for conveyancing including all the searches, transfer fees etc.. Ring round, get a few quotes, and see what the solicitors are like. We've gone with the 2nd most expensive quote as they were recommended by friends and when I spoke to them on the phone they were really helpful.0

and remember the cheapest price isn't always the least expensive.
if you know what I mean.
If it's a straight forward purchase you my well be ok with a "cheap" job, if any problems come up you migt be better with an expert (not suggesting that some of the cheaper ones are not fully competent though).0
