Help with Eon.

Options
In 2006 Eon installed a new prepay meter on to my property.I only have electric so no gas bills.I was putting in anywhere between £70 - £ 90 a week into the meter.I thought it was pretty normal as i don't have gas.An electrican come out to my property to do a job for me and i mentioned how much i was paying. He checked my meter and said it was completely wrong. My heating etc... is ecomemy 7 and my meter was not set for this, he also said something about the meter was supposed to have 2 wires and mine had 1? So basically my heating comes on of a night and the electric was supposed to be cheaper. It's been charging me the same throughout the day.Since i reported this and they fixed my meter my bill is £20 a week.
Is there anyway i could maybe recoup the money i have lost?
Thanks in advance :)

    Hi kidsmum123

There’s several possible scenarios here, can I check some details with you?

Do you know if it was the wrong type of electricity meter we fitted back in ’06?

Did we have to change your meter when we fixed the problem?

Economy 7 meters should have 2 registers so that your day and night use is recorded separately.

They have a timeswitch that flips over to the night rate, usually around midnight and then back over to the day rate 7 hours later.

If you have this type of meter and are on Economy 7 prices, then you pay less for your night use, which is when your storage heaters will be using electricity. The meter has to be wired up correctly for this to work.

It’s also possible that you had the right meter but we hadn’t programmed it with Economy 7 prices or you may have had a single rate meter fitted that isn’t set up for Economy 7 at all.

Was the meter installed to replace an old prepayment meter or a credit meter? How long had we supplied you before we fitted the new meter? Was your old meter Economy 7?

I know it’s going back a few years and I’m sorry to fire so many questions at you. Any extra info you have will be a big help in figuring out what went wrong.

See what you can find out and I’m happy to look into it a bit more for you.
