Hi Roger, I have already read that thanks Thats how I knew I could just go ahead and sort out his affairs, there is a lot under £5000 left.
I was told by the funeral directors that I had to pay for the funeral in advance.
Thanks everyone and I think I will as suggested go to the CAB

I would look at what happened to the DLA claim under the special rules. My dad has his claim backdated for 6 months so I would expect he was eligible for longer.

The answer is yes, they will accept it in installments if that is the only manageable way for you to repay the funeral payment.

You will need to get in touch with DWP Debt Management's recovery from estates team to agree a repayment plan.

But the OP hasn't actually had the money yet, surely that's the point?

They paid it into my account today and Ive paid the credit card that I paid the funeral with off.
