Winter Fuel Payment

I got a pleasant surprise in the post today from the pension service, a cheque for £200 for a Winter Fuel Payment.
I just wondered though, why they sent a cheque and did not pay the money into my bank account.
Is this because I am now 65 and will I still get my £250 (£125 each) winter fuel allowance for being over 60?

the payment has been issued by giro as the qualifing benefit is paid by giro. There are no extra payments this is year so the £200 is correct as it is £200 per household.0 -

I don't get any giro payments, my state OAP is paid into my bank account.
So the cost of gas and electricity go up and the payment goes down.
Not such a pleasant surprise after all.:(0 -
then the SP is not the qualifing benefit then, you either have another benefit that is paying the WFP or the only other option is do you act for anybody else?0
