TalkTalk and not having landline number??

Hi

I want to sign up for TalkTalks online offer of £9.50per onth line rental + broadband for £3.25. when i go to the application form, it is asking me for a property landline number. I dont have one. so called up TalkTalk who said i wouldnt be able t qualify for the offer, asI dont have a landline and so must sign up over the phone where the offer then becomes £6.50 for the broadband.

Is it really important for me to provide them with this, is there not a way around it? I only want the boradband and not fused about having landline.

Thanks,

  • Sadly, no - the offer is for people migrating (by the sound of it from what you write) from other companies, and you have to have the landline for the (ADSL based) broadband.

As Mark points out, you need one to have the other. There's no technical reason why a cable pair requires to have an active telephone line (indeed some might argue that with an IP (Internet connection) you don't NEED a telephone line), but that's not been the way it has been set up. Anyone with a requirement for ADSL BB is required to have an active telephone line in order for BB to be provided. This could change, but for the moment, without a landline in your name, you're stuffed.

I have a spare line from BT, it has dial tone and a number but is not active to make calls over. Even though it is live and connected at the exchange, it cannot be used to provide BB because it is 'disconnected'.

It's just another way to force you to take services you don;t really need!
  • Hi Thanks for the replies. I know that I need a landline, which is why I was signing up for the line rental + broadband package. There is already the connections in the house, but apparntly these are not "active". So I cant have the online offer as I need to sign p over the phone and activate the line and get a landline number.

    Hi qwertyqwerty

As advised on your other MSE thread to sign up online you need to have an active line at present.

If your line has been disconnected then it has to be requested as a new line installation. This is due to potential work being required at the exchange and encessary changes being implemented on the relevant wholesale systems.
