Garage disputes - Can you refuse to pay?

Taken car to garage following break down this am. Anyway, they're messing me about already and I've seen some not great reviews on the web.

I can see whats going to happen here.

If push comes to shove, can I refuse to pay for any work they've done? Or are they then entitled to refuse to return my car keys?

are you having a laugh :rotfl::rotfl:

you take your car to a garage get them to fix it and then say can i refuse to pay well my answer is NO.

I wonder if i could try this at Asda, if i fill my trolley and then say i wont pay and see if they will allow me the shopping.

What exactly have they done/not done?

You cant just refuse to pay and yes they will just keep your car until its settled
  • messing you about how? do you think you're being a bit too presumptuous here by saying you can see what's going to happen?
Come on, it's not rocket surgery is it?
  • if you mean by messing you about they haven't given you a definitive answer what the problem is then perhaps they're not sure yet.

car mechanics often isn't an exact science and it can take a bit of figuring out to determine what a problem is, even with cars that generate these fault codes that should in theory tell you exactly what has gone wrong

If they do the work I've agreed then fair enough - no problem.

So far they've lied to me and havent done what they agreed. Thats when I dont intend to pay.

Please read the post fully next time.

Lets just say there are quite a few bad reviews for this garage where they dont do the work and still try to charge...

i think the OP has read a couple of reviews and taking them as gospell.

i am amazed at the amount of people on here that seem to do the research after they have taken the car to the garage or the appliance to be repaired and want our advice after the fact.

i have read the post. you have not given enough information. it seems you are upset as you took your car to a garage and then researched reviews after the fact. now it has been less than a day and you say they mess you about. last time my car broke down it was in the garage 3 days, by the time they found the exact problem and then got parts and fixed it.

so what have they lied about, did you know what the problem was, if not then you have asked them to fix the car, which is what you agreed too
  • what do the reviews say? do you have a link
