What's the betting the banks are already plotting a new version of PPI

I say this
a) because they are a bunch of parasites and
b) because I have always checked my bank statements online without fail, every month two charges appear on my account one just says 'interest' which is for my overdraft, fair do's I agreed to that, they other one says 'charges £12' now call me stupid if you wish (but I'd rather you didn't!) I assumed that this was just a further charge for my OD. A bit of digging has revealed that it is for my Advantage Gold account.
I was contacted by the bank when I started earning a half decent wage and my partners earnings were also going into my bank account so I'm guessing I looked like I was earning double! The sales woman said something along the lines of (can't remember exactly!) 'as you've held your account for a long time and are earning over £x pa you qualify for the Gold account which gives you 'benefits' and preferential loan rates, at no time was it mentioned that I would be charged a monthly amount for these services!!
I'm pretty sure you'll all say that this is my own fault and I should have known, but at the moment I'm struggling to see how this is different to PPI mis sell and it smarts, it's on my list to claim it back but at the bottom as I don't hold out much hope:(
I'm also posting this to advise people to check that they aren't paying for a bank account they don't need, I've written to my bank asking them to downgrade my account;)

You don't need to pay for a bank account though, I have a standard current account with both HSBC and Lloyds TSB, they keep trying to put me on something that makes me pay them each month by telling me I can get travel, mobile phone or whatever else insurance, but I'll never use it. They make interest on your money, so why pay them for things you won't use?SPC = £15.54 #1413

This might be case of you not paying particulary good attention in the phonecall.
However since they called you it's fair to assume that you probably wouldn't have chased that deal in the first place, might be worth a punt in stating your reasons to complain to them and ask for you money back.:www: Progress Report :www:

This may well be true I had a very stressful job at the time, however I do believe that one of the benefits was mobile phone insurance, I had no need for this as I had a company mobile, I kept a very basic phone on contract on the lowest tariff for my credit rating and as a back up in case I got fired
Like I said it's on my list but at the bottom as I don't hold up much hope but really it is just another 'insurance policy' so who knows and as anyone who's got back their PPI payments knows, it's only the price of a stamp, I will of course let you all know the outcome:)MBNA Upheld £20,663.63 2/11/11, cheque recieved 25/11/11 :j

The banks are still scamming.....
The Halifax ultimate reward account (an example)
you pay them £180 a year
They give you back £60 over the year
And what do you get for it????
Insurances you dont need, and could have bought cheaper elsewhere......0 -

thanks this is what I mean, I'm guessing the first person who complained about PPI mis sell never thought they'd win, when I get all my other claims done I'll let you all know what happens and see who else is 'in';)MBNA Upheld £20,663.63 2/11/11, cheque recieved 25/11/11 :j

No , your not alone ! I only realised about 4 weeks ago that I was paying £12 a month on a "Gold" account which the bank switched me to after calling me in for a meeting . I didn't know that I could claim it all back though so now I will chase them up and also change my account .paid_too_much wrote: »thanks at least I know I'm not alone
I got my new credit card from them last week and when i phoned to confirm I had received it they asked mt if i wanted "Credit card insurance "on it .......I told them NO .
Cheeky blighters !! Glad you highlighted this or I would probably not have done anything about it . Thanks . Anne
BTW How do I go about claiming it back ....just write a letter or what ?RBS0
