I guess Dad said that son had his permission to take the car. He should have said he hadn't permission and then son would have been done for taking a vehicle without owners consent and Dad would have been in the clear.
Son is a liabilty. Anything less than a custodial sentence and, IMO, he has got away lightly.

They are lucky the car was not seized under s165 of the Road Traffic Act?!?!? As its his second time and of a youngish age excpect another ban and a MASSIVE fine!!0
