Need dentist to help (wisdom teeth)

My wisdom teeth have stopped coming in. I think they are stuck or there is no room. There is not any pain but they are not coming in very straight. Right now, the top two, you can see the points coming in and the bottom two, you can feel them under the gum but they haven't emerged.

What I think they are doing is pushing all my other teeth closer together and there is no space between teeth at all. Also I think they are pushing the teeth down into the gum as there is no space to move sideways. So it seems my gums are receeding.

I was referred to the hospital by my dentist but the consultant basically asked "are you in pain?", I said "no, not really", "ok then, bye".

I would get them removed privately but it would be over £1000 which is too much.

What can I do? Nothing? Just let them squeeze me teeth together even more?

Taking out lower wisdom teeth can have risks so hospital guidelines are unless you have had repeated infections needing antibiotics in a short time then they will not take them out. They especially will not take wisdom teeth out that have not come through unless there is something like a cyst associated with them.

Wisdom teeth do not push the other teeth together. Even if you had no wisdom teeth your teeth would naturally drift forwards anyway. This natural drift is utilised in braces. So removing wisdom teeth wont make this better.

Gums receeding are either due to gum problems or using a toothpaste or brush that is too abrasive(eg euthymol) .

Talk to your dentist they can see you and best advise but from the sounds of it you do not meet nice guidelines for removal of wisdom teeth.

It is the most abrasive toothpaste available in the uk. I would only use it to clean grouting on bathroom tiles as in this tips article

"One of the world’s strongest abrasive cleansers, euthymol is useful in cleaning surfaces around sink drainage pipes, window moldings, bathroom tiles and areas prone to dampness or mold. After the surface is cleaned, a temporary barrier remains, preventing formation of bacterial mold from water leakage. When applied sparingly to a soft toothbrush, it can be used to clean jewelry, especially pieces containing channel-set or small stones. It can be useful in removing surface scuff marks from fine leather shoes and handbags. When diluted with warm water, it can remove small marks, blemishes or minor dings in automobile paint surfaces and can reduce the density of scratches in leather seats."

Don't use on teeth, you'll have no enamel left in a few years.

I had my wisdom teeth removed privately, for 2 partly surfaced and 2 that were under the gum I paid less then £500, that included 2 hygienist trips so that I could learn to maintain my new, not crowded gums.

Mine were all horizontal and I was getting infections in my lower ones a lot. The dentist who did it had one of my lower teeth out in less than 10 minutes. The consent form listed a lot of potential complications but I never had any at all. I didn't even need to take painkillers when the anaesthetic wore off.

If you're going to get it done, research your dentist, get x-rays and make sure you know the worst case scenario. Discuss how much you'll take in 1 day ( I got bottom ones out first and 2 weeks later got the top ones, all under local with no relaxing drugs, I know one of my friends got Valium for an extraction). Also make sure you know what your quote covers, if you need any extras how will they be paid?

    Wikipedia covers it well.

    Abrasives

Abrasives constitute at least 50% of a typical toothpaste. These insoluble particles help remove plaque from the teeth. The removal of plaque and calculus prevents cavities and periodontal disease.I]citation needed[/I Representative abrasives include particles of aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)3), calcium carbonate (CaCO3), various calcium hydrogen phosphates, various silicas and zeolites, and hydroxyapatite (Ca5(PO4)3OH).
Abrasives, like the dental polishing agents used in dentists' offices, also cause a small amount of enamel erosion which is termed "polishing" action. Some brands contain powdered white mica which acts as a mild abrasive, and also adds a cosmetically-pleasing glittery shimmer to the paste. The polishing of teeth removes stains from tooth surfaces, but has not been shown to improve dental health over and above the effects of the removal of plaque and calculus.[2]

It's not so much what's in there, as the particle size and amount that can be the problem (and that won't be stated on the pack).
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

My wisdom teeth have made a right mess of my other teeth - the front ones have overlapped top and bottom. :(

I get quite a lot of on/off pain because of it, but my dentists over the years have been less than helpful and more or less said I had to put up with it.

Although my present one said that when I get a spare £2000 she could take the wisdom teeth out and give me braces...oh how I laughed, until I realised she said it in innocent sincerity. :rotfl:

I'm afraid that if and when the time ever comes that I have a spare £2000 it will be spent on getting a more reliable car. :D

Get it done in pieces. Now my teeth are out I'm saving for the orthodontist, it's very expensive though because my top teeth don't meet my bottom teeth (how no one noticed that when I was a child I'll never know) so I need a stupidly complex treatment plan to fix it up.
